Buzz. Buzz.

A fly whizzes by my face.

I groan. I’ve spent last thirty minutes slapping air yet the fly manages to escape my wrath every single time. I won’t give up just now; it has to feel and know my wrath. Again.

Woe to me, my hands flail at the air, but fail miserably. I wonder if my neighbors are watching; they might think I am like a child throwing a tantrum. The fly circles my head. I throw my head back and groan. These pests only get to live for few days. No wonder why they are bugging me so much and I know why now. They must be in fury because they know their time is short.

Not only these tiny creatures with large, beady eyes are irritating, the heat is equally unforgiving. Sweat start to form into little beads across my forehead, like soldiers in their formation, ready to attack my eyes and my entire face into mire. I was too exhausted—or let’s say, frustrated—to swipe away the sweat. My hands droop. Clunk. My fingers touch the handle of a toy bucket, then linger for a little until I felt the sand shovel. Aha, maybe that is what I just needed. Just one more time.

The same fly lands on my shoulder, and looks up at me, absolutely ignorant.

I got ya where I want you.

My fingers tightens on the shovel, and quickly enough I flung my entire arm and slapped at the fly. Hard.

Splat!

Ouch.

I wince and brush away the goo. You’re done away with.

Now I can be left alone in this heat. I close my eyes and leaned back on the chair. Thud. The shovel falls out of my grip and hit the grass gently.

Everything begins to fall.

The distant dog barking. The car whizzing by. The birds warbling.

They seem to fade out in the background. Nothing bothers me, not anymore, now that the fly is removed from my presence.

Now this is easy, I think to myself, and lift my legs into a tuck comfortably.

Everything feels quiet.

Even heat dies down. This is strange, don’t you think?

This is strange to the rest of world and every one of my neighbors who always has either of their dogs barking or music set up blaring on their patio.

Well—it is strange, indeed! Normally there would be something to fill my ears with something.

It was different.

Maybe it is because I killed the fly.

The fly is no longer around to disturb my peace.

I can finally breathe now.

The adversary is no longer in the room—we all know that he fell from Heaven a long ago and took one-third of His angels with him. With so little time on Earth, he’s doing everything in his might to rummage through Earth and rob souls of their peace. How does he do this? He just constantly buzzes.

He is that voice who troubles your mind: is God real? Is He good? Is He enough?

He wants to distract all of us from what is truly important—God.

Thankfully, God has made the way for every one of us.

He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, who is true Savior and the Prince of Peace. We can experience peace

on Earth because of Jesus Christ. He already has overcome death and given every of his believers access to His Heavenly riches through Holy Spirit—one of these is, peace.

Thanks be to God! God has also made all of us aware of his schemes through Word of God. This is how we can learn how to use the authority of Christ to slap at these annoying, pesky flies.

Although the adversary might still be buzzing around on Earth, we have Jesus Christ, who is greater than the world.

[Rev 12:12 NKJV] 12 “Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.

[Jhn 16:33 NKJV] 33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
